'The 세로'의 4 인 가야금 문세미, 아쟁 김범식, 소리 이승민, 타악 양성태는 모두 한국예술종합학교 전통예술원을 졸업한 동문으로 전통을 기반으로 한 판소리, 음악극, 콘서트, 창극의 연주자이자 배우, 연출 등 전방위적인 활동을 하며 전통음악서사를 기반으로 한 국악의 확장에 대한 가능성을 확인하고 있다.

또한, 이를 통해 관객들이 전통을 바라보는 관점이 ‘감상하는 예술’에서 ‘현실을 반영하고 소통하는 예술’을 추구한다. 구성원들 모두 젊은이의 시선에서 사회를 바라보고 해석하여 음악으로 풀어가고자 하며 그 해석을 동시대 관객들과 나누며 이야깃거리를 넓혀가고자 한다. 시간의 변화와 사회의 흐름에 따라 하는 이도 듣는 이도 함께 여물어가는 음악을 하는 것이 'The 세로'가 가고자 하는 길이다.

THE SERO presents new compositions central on traditional musical language featuring vocal, gayageum (plucked zither), ajaeng (bowed zither), and janggu (drum), expanding the realm of what Korean traditional music is in contemporary society.

Their current work is to express inner conflicts of characters, relationships between characters, and relationship between people and society, interpreting the characters of pansori (traditional epic drama) from a contemporary perspective.

They aim to interpret society from the younger generation’s point of view, expressing that interpretation through music and sharing it with contemporary audiences.
